IPCC stands for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It was founded in 1988 by United Nations.

Its objective is to study evaluate the changes in the climate and study climate change sciences. Its aims are to assess:

  • The risk of human induced climate change or the contributions of humans towards climate change
  • The impacts of climate change
  • The options of prevention or methods of correction

The IPCC assesses research material on climate change and complies comprehensive reports every 5 to 7 years.

It comprises of representatives from 194 governments who review the contents of reports before publishing the final text.
