Single use plastics are the biggest source of plastic pollution. These are now being replaced by compostable or biodegradable plastic bags.

Regular plastic bags have to adhere to severe compliances laid down by the authorities. However, they do not apply to carry bags made up of compostable plastic.

These plastics have to comply with special standards such as the Indian Standard: IS 17088:2008 titled as Specifications for Compostable Plastics which is now amended as the Indian Standard: IS 17088:2012.
